After reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, I have my students make their own caterpillar and write what they would eat three days of the week. For example, On Monday I would eat ice cream. On Tuesday I would eat strawberries. On Wednesday I would eat brownies. I told the students they could pick whatever they wanted to eat. It also was great practice writing the days of the week. For the craft, I had the students glue 5 lime green circles for the body and 1 red circle for the head. They glued 5 brown legs, one for each lime green circle. They cut out the yellow eyes and used a green marker for the middle of the eyes. For the antennas, the students cut small strips of purple paper. Most students drew the mouth with a brown marker or they cut a brown scrap from the legs to make a shape for the mouth. My students loved this craft and had fun with the writing! I hope your students do too!
