Kids love taking home the CATERPILLAR JOURNAL!
Each spring, I implement units of study concerning: plant growth, oviparous animals, insects, and life cycles of the butterfly, frog, and ladybug. We read fictional stories as well as informational books on these topics. One of our favorite stories is Eric Carle’s, The Very Hungry Caterpillar! My kids enjoy the vivid pictures showing the caterpillar eating lots and lots of FOOD.... especially the junk food!
Every child can’t wait to take home the CATERPILLAR JOURNAL for one night. You may send the caterpillar, the journal, crayons, and Eric Carle’s book in a garden-tool bag, backpack, or small butterfly net. Once home, the child takes care of the caterpillar and writes and illustrates in the journal. The class is thrilled to read about the caterpillar’s adventures the next morning!
For more than 20 years, I printed these journals to sell and mail to teachers. However, to avoid printing and mailing costs, I’ve created a PDF of the journal. This allows teachers to print the journals each year without having to reorder! :)
I’ve included the directions on how to print the journals back to back and staple into a book for your students to enjoy writing, illustrating, and reading!
All that remains to be asked is: WHAT WILL THE CATERPILLAR EAT NEXT?
PLEASE leave me a comment and let me know what YOU think! I strive to create materials that are fun, engaging, and educational for young children! Your comments guide and encourage me! Thank you!
