The Caterpillar displays the students point Reading progress over a period of 6 to 9 week period depending on your school. I use this with the A.R. program. In the document, I give you more directions on how to use this in your classroom. I print out these circles and make a caterpillar. I place point cards on each circle. For the example used,I only used 1 point card for each color for a total of 6 for 6 weeks in a grading period. I use either magnets or clothes pins. For example, I write each students' name on each clothes pin. When the student earns 1 point they move their pin to the 1 point circle, and they will continue to move their pin till they reach their goal of 6 points. Once they receive more than 6 points, they clip it to the caterpillar head. The points go up to 12 points. If you have a first grade room, you can have the points that go by .5,1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3, which is also included. I always Velcro my points, so I can easily change them each six weeks. This is a great way for the students and teacher to keep track of how many A.R. points they get. You can also use these to keep track of each grade level if you're a librarian. I have one for each grade level with clothes pins of each teacher. When the class as a whole moves up a point, then I move the clothes pin.
** After downloading, you still need to laminate, decorate the head of the caterpillar, and buy magnets or clothes pins.
