The first page of the download is a poster that explains cause and effect, including an example and signal words. There are three activities related to cause and effect. The first activity uses the children's book, The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash by Trinka Hakes Noble. After reading the story to the class, there is an activity (can be guided practice or independent) where students fill in the missing cause or effect related to the story. Following that, is an independent activity where students are to write a cause and effect sentence based on each scenario given. The third activity uses the children's book, Alexander, and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst. This activity can be used as a guided or independent practice. After reading the story to the students, they will cut and paste causes and effects so that they make sense.
