In this activity, students will use their skills in determining cause and effect relationships. The game is designed to be played similar to Rummy. Students will draw 6 cards and try to match a cause card with its corresponding effect card. When they make a match, they will place it on their game board in the appropriate column. If students do not make a match, they will need to decide which card to discard. Teachers could decide when students are deemed the winner – when they get a certain number of relationships, when all cards have been drawn, after a certain time limit, etc. This game includes 29 cause and effect relationships for a total of 58 cards.
There are several variations to this game: pass out all cards and challenge students to find their match, pass out only the cause or effect so that students could determine their own cause or effect relationship, use as flash cards so that students could classify them as either a cause or effect. There are so many variations for this game!
