Detailed Teacher Notes
The task cards are a great activity to introduce cause and effect. The first set of 32 cards are bright and colorful with animals and cause and effect situations on each card. The second set has pictures on them and asks students to determine the cause and the effect. It might have a melting ice cream, a flat tire or burnt cookies!
Once you print the task cards, just laminate and cut them out, and you’ll be ready to go! Your task card sets can be used at a center, in small collaborative groups, for one on one work, for early finishers, as a whole class activity (teacher directed), or as a whole class rotating station activity. Simply have the kids use the student record sheet provided, write their answers and then check together.
I really like the worksheets! They were hand selected and written to be ones that your students will really be interested in. Each has an informational text passage on the front side (some with diagrams too) and the back side has a "Cause and Effect" chart with pieces missing for the students to fill in. These are rigorous materials that are great for practice or test prep.
This unit is definitely a great addition to your reading materials!
Need a 3rd grade version? The task cards are the same but the passages are geared to 3rd grade:
