Teach your students to understand cause and effect while reading with this engaging interactive PowerPoint!
This PowerPoint is included in my Reading Comprehension PowerPoint Bundle.
Overview of PowerPoint:
•Begins with simple explanations for cause and effect (cause is why something happens, effect is what happens)
•Students predict what effects will happen from different causes with fun animations
•Students read passages and guess the effect from causes
•Students work backwards to guess what might have caused certain effects to happen
•Explains that multiple effects can come from one cause
•Students pick out both the cause and effect sentences in a passage
•Students play a short game to help a student make a choice and see the various effects the different choices have
Note to Teachers:
I didn't include a section on signal words for finding cause and effect. I've found it can be confusing to bring in the signal words before they have a clear concept of what cause and effect is, especially for the younger grades. This PowerPoint is meant to give them a foundation and to help them think through what the cause is and what the effect is, without getting bogged down in the semantics of a sentence too early. This way they focus on the big picture and really grasp the concept instead of getting focused on the (often quite confusing) wording of sentences.
