These cause and effect paper chains are a fun, visual way for students to practice sequencing events and identifying cause and effect relationships. You’ll find five cause and effect chains included, each with five related events for students to cut, sequence, and link together in a paper chain. I’ve also included a recording sheet, which states the instructions for the activity and requires students to identify and write two cause and effect relationships found within their chain, allowing you to assess their knowledge of this skill and the cause and effect terms.
In my own second grade classroom, I have found it helpful for students to do this activity in pairs, as some find it difficult to both hold the paper in place and tape or glue it at the same time. As an added bonus, they are building partner work skills and fine motor skills as they work to complete this part of the task.
