Product Description

Study cause and effect nonfiction text structure using these 6 short reading passages and graphic organizers. The engaging topics feature one paragraph of informational text and 4 multiple-choice questions on one page. 6 different graphic organizers are also included. Great for integrating science, social studies, and reading!

The topics include hibernation, allergic reactions, the Chicago Fire of 1871, Martin Luther King's I Have a Dream speech, the San Francisco earthquake of 1906, and bad sugar. The questions cover a variety of reading skills and are modeled after the types of questions on standardized reading tests. The last 2 questions on each passage are about causes, effects, or text organization. Summarization questions are also included separately, giving you the option to work on this important skill with your students as test prep.

PLEASE NOTE that all these paragraphs also appear in other sets of short reading passages available in my store. I have gathered 6 good examples of cause and effect nonfiction text structure from these other topical sets, slightly altered the comprehension questions, and designed graphic organizers in order to offer this resource that highlights text structure.

Readability is in the 3rd-5th grade range. Please check the preview to help you determine whether or not they would be suitable for your students. Most 3rd graders can do these with teacher guidance and support. You can purchase with confidence, as I have 32 years of experience in preparing upper elementary students for standardized reading testing!
