This packet really guides the students and the teacher through what cause and effect is and how and why it is a reading skill, which I think most people are confused by. I know I was! It is an interactive packet which could also be done independently. The first page begins with a teaching point and layman's term definition of what cause and effect is. It then goes into practicing identifying cause and effect in sentences and looking for clue words. It points out that cause is not always first in the sentence. The packet also includes practice in identifying cause and effect organizations in text, an open ended question, a graphic organizer and story to go with it, and even a writing prompt. In a separate file, there are some book suggestions and a blank graphic organizer on cause and effect to use as you wish. Feel free to change anything or edit this packet. If you have an overhead projector, you can project the instructions and examples in this packet, so they are not staring at their papers the whole time. :) Notes; This was made in Word, and although you may see me suggest a few books, you don't HAVE to use them.
