Have you seen Ormie? Ormie is a pig that has spotted a batch of cookies on top of a refrigerator and he'll do ANYTHING to get them! This animated short is charming for students and a GREAT way to teach cause and effect. http://vimeo.com/27256955
Guide students through the concept of Cause and Effect with Ormie. This lesson provides an explanation of cause and effect and then arms students with signal words to help them write stronger cause and effect sentences. It continues by identifying STOP POINTS throughout the video where students can note the cause and effect taking place and write a sentence about it using clear signal words (since, because, as a consequence, as a result of, for this reason, etc.)
For example: Ormie opens the freezer door. As a result, the ice cubes fall on him.
This is a TERRIFIC lesson to use whole group or with iPads. Packet provides a link and a QR code to the video.
