Ideas for using this Causes of the Civil War and Civil War Resource -
I created this product because I was in search of articles that I could read with my students for the Civil War and causes of the Civil War, but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. These articles are based on the fourth grade curriculum that we teach in Georgia, but could be used for other grade levels and states. I also kept the ELA Common Core in mind when I was writing the comprehension questions for the causes of the Civil War and Civil war articles.
I plan to use these as articles that we will paste into our Social Studies interactive notebooks. I have included at least one interactive activity or flip book for each article. I have also included comprehension questions for each article that can help with class discussion, but can also be used for a grade.
I will read the articles with my class, we will have discussion and I also use trade books (check out our blog Collaboration Cuties for more information on ideas for that.). Then, we will do the interactive activities or flip books together in our notebooks. After that, I will have the students answer the questions for a grade.
These Civil War and causes of the Civil War passages are at a higher reading level since the vocabulary that is included in our Social Studies curriculum is more challenging. This is why I will read it aloud with my 4th graders. These articles will be great for differentiation if you teach 5th or 6th grade.
The question pages are great for classwork, morning work, or homework! They are great for daily grades too!
These causes of the Civil War and Civil War articles and worksheets can also be left as a review activity for a substitute teacher! You can also print and send this unit home for distance learning or at home learning.
Students love the engaging articles and interactive notebook activities!
