Create a cave in the corner of your classroom to help your students learn more about cave life, rock formations, or ancient rock art. Complete step-by-step directions show how to make the mural using painted white butcher paper (the harder way), or plain brown butcher paper (the easier way). Painting directions are included, but painting is not necessary when using plain brown butcher paper.
Students can add
*rock art paintings to the mural, as they explore cave paintings and petroglyphs,
*plants and animals as they study about natural life in caves, or
*rock formations as they learn about rocks, minerals, and the rock cycle.
*instructions for painting smooth stone walls, and bumpy rocks,
*directions for assembling the mural,
*an art print to help students identify shapes contained in the "rocks", and
*student directions for painting images of ancient rock art on the mural.
I hope this simple mural will add to your students' understanding of cave things and shake things up a little!
