Mistakes are okay! Students need to celebrate mistakes and know it is part of the learning process. This helps develop a growth mindset.
I had a student who would get very upset if he didn’t write his letter /a/ in the most perfect way. I was always trying to explain that it is okay to make mistakes. Well, one day I decided to take that a little further and CELEBRATE mistakes! This pairs perfectly with discussions about Growth Mindset.
1. Print the banner on colored paper to make it pop! I like using Astrobrights paper.
2. Hang the banner on a bulletin board or blank wall in your classroom. You may punch holes at the top and hang with some ribbon or twine if you’d like.
Any time you ‘catch’ one of your students making a mistake, jump for joy and celebrate it!
Have the student write their mistake on a sticky note and stick it to the wall.
Watch your wall fill up with post-its and celebrate those mistakes!!
