This project is a great opportunity for third grade students to practice their timeline skills as well as discuss their cultural holidays/celebrations with their families. Students will also present their timelines to the class, so there is also an oral presentation component.
My students really enjoyed working on their timelines at home, but there's also a way for a more authentic assessment of what students can do without too much parent involvement. For homework, simply have students discuss any holidays/celebrations their families celebrate and take down some notes. Students can then incorporate these special events into their timeline projects at school.
A suggested rubric of 100 points is also included.
