This is a summative assessment (at home) project where students are assigned either a plant or animal cell. The purpose of the project is for students to create an analogy where they compare the parts of a cell to another real-world object. Students must be able to accurately relate each part of the cell and its function to a part of another object and explain its relevance. Examples I have seen from students include a "cell is like a....." factory, city, the human body, the army etc. Students create and present a visual of their analogy to the class and once all analogies are presented the students vote on the analogy that has the strongest scientific connection and the analogy that is the most creatively designed.
