A multi-step project covering the cell cycle, meiosis, and development. Each page provides diagrams and specific instructions related to each topic. Focus questions tying everything together is at the end, along with a rubric. This project can span several class lessons or weeks of material and can be given to students to be worked on over time or as a review project.
DNA Replication: students will draw an animal cell, labeling organelles. Students will show the process of DNA replication and will label steps.
Transcription/Translation: students will identify the location of both transcription and translation within a cell and will draw and color each process outlining how proteins are made.
Mitosis: students will label each phase of mitosis, drawing a cell in each phase. Students will include how many chromosomes and chromatids are in human cells at each phase.
Meiosis: students will identify each division (Meiosis I and Meiosis 2) and will indicate how many chromosomes and chromatids human germ cells have during each division of meiosis.
Development: students will label and draw cells during fertilization and the first few stages of development (zygote, 2-cell, 4-cell, 8-cell, blastula, gastrula).
