One of my best selling items just got better! Better animations! Clearer text.
During this tutorial, students will click their way through animations, review questions, and various diagrams to illustrate/animate the cell cycle and mitosis in a unique and easy to follow manner.
Students will begin with an introduction to the cell cycle. They will progress their way through the process of mitosis where they will be asked a series of questions along the way to check for understanding. At the end, there is a 20 question review quiz for the students to complete.
From the student point of view, this sure beats a 30 minute lecture as it is much more engaging. From the teacher point of view, this beats a 30 minute lecture as it allows the students to be engaged with the process of mitosis. This is not a simple PowerPoint presentation where students are shown bullet point main ideas. This PowerPoint is full of creative animations and probing questions that require a student answer in order to proceed.
I use these interactive tutorials as a way to introduce or reinforce the topic in question. I have found these tutorials to be very helpful as they allow the students to work at their own pace, go back to an early topic, or move forward. This tutorial was created with Microsoft Power Point, so you don't have to worry about installing unfamiliar software such as Flash and Macromedia.
Once you download the tutorial, feel free to make multiple copies to use with your students. I used to burn a class set of CDs so when we went to the computer lab to work on this tutorial, I would simply pass out 1 CD to each student and they could work at their own pace. I recollected the CDs when finished. Now-a-days, I have a class set of USB/flash drives that I pass out to the students when we go to the computer lab. Its a easy way to distribute the tutorial. All I did was ask students if they have any flash drives at home not being used. Chances are you'll have students donate enough for a class set. Offer a little extra credit if needed.
