Overview: This activity demonstrates how gene regulation and gene expression cause cell differentiation. It allows students to develop the concept of cell differentiation though inquiry based learning. By comparing and contrasting computers and computer functions to cell and cell function, students are able to understand and develop the concept of epigenetic and how epigenetics control gene expression and differentiation of cells. Cell differentiation is a key genetic concept and is taught in most biology courses. This activity also helps students develop the idea that all cells in an organism contain the same set of genetic material.
