The card sorts provided by C.O.O.S.A. Consulting (Consistently Operating Over Standard Achievement) are designed to give your students microscopic views of terms that explain a function or a process. The card sort can be used in a variety of ways.
Use the card sort to make terms concrete in you students mind. It can be used as your engage in your teaching progression.
Use the card sort for homework. If you are a teacher that has developed your own site for your class you can have students put together the card sort, and when the student get home they will have to complete the card sort again and email, tweet, flipgrid, or text you a picture of the finished card sort. They will have access to the card sort through your website that you upload the card sort to if they need to print.
Use the card sort as a review. For instance I have vocabulary Fridays the students have to complete the card sort for previous or future units and then play space race on socrative.com in teams of two.
Use the card sort as a way to differentiate your learning environment. Have your ESL and Sped students work on the card sort while you give the rest of your class different type of instructions. Once your instructions are given and the rest of the class is working come back to your ESL and students that need extra help and spend more time with them through guided learning.
