This is a Word document. It is an introduction to the cell membrane, its parts and functions in the form of notes taken by hand. Included are 3 full-color pictures to describe the parts and functions of the cell membrane. The notes are approximately half the page. An assignment based on these notes is included. The assignment includes a Q & A section, a coloring page and a matching assignment - totaling one and a half pages. Here's how I work this:
I project the Cell Membrane Board Notes onto the Promethean Board or a whiteboard. The students are to copy these notes into their binders - this shouldn't take any longer than 10 minutes. I occasionally give notes to be written by hand (NOT typed into a computer) as it is a form of studying and learning utilizing eye/hand coordination. Some student love taking notes; others loathe it - just trying to reach all the different learning styles. Once the notes are complete, I go over the 3 different color pictures of the cell membrane describing the parts and their functions for the visual and auditory learners.
I stress the importance of note-taking in its entirety because an assignment is then given based on the notes. The assignment includes a Q & A section, a coloring section, and a matching section. The assignment encompasses one and a half pages. This is an easy, introductory assignment since the students have all of the notes! No excuses, tricks or surprises!
The combined notes, pictures and assignment is 4 pages.
