Description

This is a great DIFFERENTIATED way to ensure that students learn the names, functions, and visual recognition of each of the 12 main plant and animal organelles, while making that lesson less dry, and more engaging. Students can be up and moving, and stay active. Students can circulate around the room and fill in either version of the differentiated guided notes chart from the informative mini-posters.

I usually put one poster at each table or hang the posters around the room. Students circulate and fill in their chart. This is an alternative to giving notes, which can be difficult for students to maintain focus and retain information. Students can work more quickly through those organelles which they already know, and spend more time or ask questions where they individually need to.

This set includes:

-12 printable letter-sized sized color posters on each of the major organelles in plant and animal cells. Organelles are identified and labeled on each poster.

-Guided notes chart to complete

-Additional modified chart for students who need extra time or assistance

-Teacher instructions and teaching tips.

After completing this activity, students will have a chart with 12 main organelles, function, drawing, and be able to identify the differences between a plant and an animal cell. They will be familiar with the organelles and will be ready to go into more detail.

NGSSMS-LS1-2
Develop and use a model to describe the function of a cell as a whole and ways the parts of cells contribute to the function. Emphasis is on the cell functioning as a whole system and the primary role of identified parts of the cell, specifically the nucleus, chloroplasts, mitochondria, cell membrane, and cell wall. Assessment of organelle structure/function relationships is limited to the cell wall and cell membrane. Assessment of the function of the other organelles is limited to their relationship to the whole cell. Assessment does not include the biochemical function of cells or cell parts.
