A creative spin on the Cell City project!!
Floating around in the cytoplasm of a cell are small structures called organelles. Like the organs in your body, each one carries out a specific function necessary for the cell to survive. In this project students will demonstrate an understanding of a cell’s structures and their functions. They will compare cell organelles and functions to that of a working amusement park.
This is an individual project that can be completed at home or in the classroom. Students begin by completing the Inside of a Cell worksheet. They will describe what the organelle looks like, list the part of the amusement part that is similar to that organelle and explain why they matched the cell organelle up with that part of the amusement park. Students will then use the packet and design and draw a map of their amusement park. Maps will be evaluated according to completeness, accuracy, creativity, parts of the amusement park used to represent the cell organelles and if they have similar functions.
