Students imagine that they are a cell. One of their organelles is quitting and has given his two weeks’ notice. Students must now advertise for a replacement organelle to fill the open position.
In this activity, students will work with a partner and determine what goes into a good help wanted ad . Pairs of students will then use this information to write three help wanted ads for cell organelles. Students must be creative in writing the help wanted ads and are instructed not to directly state the cell organelle in the ad, but instead include key words that will allow the reader to guess the organelle the help wanted ad is representing!
The student activity sheet includes a sample cell organelle help wanted ad, a list of required elements, a checklist to review the final product and a grading rubric.
