In this lab students will calculate the surface area to volume ratio of different size cells and observe how efficient they are at moving materials in and out by soaking them in bleach. Following the lab activity students can fill out a claim, evidence, and reasoning chart.
Materials needed: Beets, bleach, beakers, knife, gloves, goggles, ruler, stopwatch, paper plate or petri dish, and calculator.
