This Cell unit assessment plan is meant to help teachers bolster their cell activities in the class room with several lab activities, worksheets, projects, and inquiry-based research. This assessment plan includes:
-Cell Assessment Plan: A detailed run down of the objectives being met by each of the major activities.
-Vocabulary Lists: Lists of new words students will need to know by the end of the unit.
-Pretest and Test Bank: A pretest is provided in this unit for use with an Excel file which will calculate which cellular topics are weaknesses for each of your classes. The unit also includes a Test Bank which can be used to make routine tests. Both include an answer key.
-Graphic Organizers and Study Sheets: This unit includes a Venn Diagram for comparing organelles in animal vs plant cells, a cell structure and function crossword, a cell reproduction crossword, a photosynthesis vs cellular respiration graphic organizer, a mitosis graphic organizer, a meiosis activity, and a cell structure study guide.
-Cell Cookies Activity: The traditional activity of creating a model cell using baked goods, with added questions to get students thinking. This includes 3 versions of the activity; a Lab Notebook version, a handout version, and a worksheet version as well as teacher directions.
-Jobs of Organelles: Students take on the role of various organelles working in the cell, charged with defending their "job" due to budget cuts, students have to explain what role they provide in the cell and why they just can't be let go! Includes a rubric.
-pH Lab: Students graph data collected from testing the pH of various solutions. Includes teacher notes and a rubric.
-Insane in the Membrane Lab: Students develop their own hypotheses involving the effects of various solutions on an egg cell. Includes a rubric and teacher notes.
-Enzyme Lab: Students create their own hypotheses involving a simple test the catalase enzyme.
-Animal and Plant Cell Lab: Students observe Elodea and human cheek cells under microscopes. This lab includes creating scientific diagrams and answering questions about what they observe. This lab includes a separate set of instructions which can be laminated and used over and over! It also includes a rubric and a peer-review rubric for students!
-Cell Choice Board: Various assignments students can choose from to drive their own learning.
