This lab is designed to meet the Cellular Respiration NGSS HS-LS1-7 standard. In the lab, students will illustrate that cellular respiration is a process whereby the bonds of food molecules and oxygen molecules are broken and bonds in new compounds are formed resulting in the production of energy. Students will use yeast, sugar, balloons, and test tubes to demonstrate cellular respiration through gas production. Students will investigate whether yeast metabolizes sugar to produce a gas presumed to be carbon dioxide. Lab includes a lab introduction rubric, data rubric, and conclusion rubric.
