I created this lab because I could not find a lab I liked where students can measure carbon dioxide rates with Vernier Go Direct CO2 probes. Students measure CO2 levels of leaves, bugs, germinating seeds, and also an empty container (as the control). It is adaptable so you can use any living (or dead if you want) leaves, bugs, or seeds/beans. When testing out the probes, I experimented with several types of seeds and leaves and they all worked out great!
This bundle includes the PowerPoint presentation that you can use to walk students through the lab, or just to explain it. The beginning of the presentation includes a YouTube video that shows students how to use the probe and the software. I also created a lab sheet that is very detailed to walk students through the steps of the experiment. They collect and record their data, and utilize the graphical analysis functions of the software. Then students make a quick sketch of the graphs that the software provides. Finally they answer discussion questions, which includes making some predictions. The questions start off with claim, evidence, and reasoning.
