Students really struggle with grammar. And if your school district is anything like mine, grammar is being shortened if not completely cut from the LA curriculum. Now, with the implementation of the Common Core State Standards, grammar instruction is becoming increasingly important. This activity can be used for a center, guided reading, or homework activity to teach or reinforce the complex structure of a sentence. The circus theme makes it more interesting and enjoyable for students.
Included in the set are the following activities about "the sentence"
- Subject/verb agreement
- Capitalization/ punctuation
- Complete Sentences
- Subject/ predicate
- Building sentences
The first 5 activities are all designed the same way. They can be played as scoot games, or put on rings for task card. You could also review or complete with students during guided reading. It is perfect for standardized test prep for grammar. Each of these activities includes:
- 20 multiple choice questions
- student response sheet
- answer key
Finally, in the last activity, students build sentences based on words that they have available. They then record the sentence on a recording sheet.
