Looking for a way to hold your students accountable during centers? I was, too! I love giving them the autonomy to move around to centers and practice skills in different ways, but it is often difficult to keep track of their understanding and overall productivity within each center. This can make it hard to judge how effective the centers truly are.

By using accountability trackers, students take 2 minutes to stop and reflect on their time spent in a center. They record their understanding level (based on our Levels of Understanding Scale) and their overall effort level.
Students will need to be guided through completing an accountability tracker before they can be expected to accurately represent their reflections. Discuss the importance of honesty and self-reflection. Explain the ‘WHY’ behind these trackers… for students to understand the ways they learn best, and for teachers to make centers meet their needs.
I review these once they are fully completed and add my own comments/ratings if I feel there is a discrepancy between my observations and the student’s tracker. An accountability tracker for each workshop goes home in their Thursday folder every week for parents to see what we are up to!
