Learn the names of all the countries in Central America with an upbeat song. My former students have told me that they have used this on tests in high school.
The way I use it is I tell them I'm going to rap for them. Then I rap for them. Then I hand out a sheet with the lyrics and have them follow along. After a couple of times I tell them to put the sheet away and I rap the first part of the verse and see if they can fill in the second half, which includes the name of the country in it. Some kids like to get up and do it for their friends, while one beatboxes and they rap. It's a fun song, I haven't heard any Central America mnemonics like it. Good for Middle School.
Here are the lyrics:
Are you having trouble remembering things?
I got a new way to do it you can rap it or sing it
This is the Central American rap
We got words and music, you don't need a map
You can be a tourist down in Honduras
Reach for the trees, we in Belize
Holla holla in Guatemala
Lay on the shore in El Salvador
And dance like a freak-a, in Costa Rica
Then it's Panama, Panama, Panama Jack
We going to Nicaragua but we'll be right back.
