Central idea is an important skill in any content that requires students to read informational or fiction texts. This product will help your students to organizer their ideas.
This set of graphic organizers helps to achieve Common Core State Standard RL.1 and RL.2, as well as R.I.1 and R.I.2.
Students are asked to identify a central idea from the text, find 2 details that convey the central idea, and explain how the details convey the central idea.
These organizers can be used for whole group instruction, partner work, group work, station work, literacy centers, homework, an assessment, or any other way you see fit! This product is so versatile. It can be used repeatedly with any text as well!
The organizers are compatible with both fiction and informational text. Two versions of the organizer are included. One version provides you with a copy that lists the standards and learning targets, while the second version comes without the targets and standards listed on the page.
After students identify central ideas from the text (print as many copies as there are central ideas you’d like students to find-3 pages are included but they can be copied to make extra or you can make less), you can opt to give them a writing prompt that is also included.
The writing prompt asks students to determine which of the central ideas is most important to the text and support their claim with an explanation and text evidence.
Lastly, a rubric is included! After students complete the graphic organizers and writing prompts, they can assess their own work using the rubric. Then, you can also assess their work as well. This provides clear expectations and success criteria for your
