This lesson is intended for high school students who have with clay. They should know what a slab is and how to form a slab mug.
This lesson includes using human form, animal form or a character form. Students examples incorporate all three of these varieties. Lesson package also includes construction techniques and glaze layering combos. The purpose and prompts are provided for both the students and the teacher. This project is meant to challenge students to develop, plan and execute a stagnant, stationary object (a mug/cup) and make it animated.
No need for a potter's wheel although you could definitely use the prompt & purpose as a jumping off point for an altered wheel thrown piece! The project is great for advanced students to research and develop their own design, theme or subject matter, making it unique to them.
Lesson package includes:
- Teacher slideshow that shows all the steps, materials list, glaze suggestions & timeframe
- student slideshow that includes the prompt, daily goals, in progress works and finished glazed pieces
- 6 JPEG examples of previous student works
- 2 versions of a rubric (PDF & DOC)
- My TOU agreement
