Ceramic Slab Relief Wall Art with Watercolor & Tempera Finish

Are you looking for an easy Upper Elementary Art lesson or a Middle School ceramics project?! Try this student tested ceramics art lesson that teaches slab construction, stamped texture, relief, and color mixing with paint!

My students were very pleased with their results and had an easy time achieving successful results.

This lesson is great for 4-12th graders. A quick way to introduce clay methods such as score and slip, additive sculpture methods and stamping. Color mixing also can be introduced. This lesson ties in with Social studies and information is included to teach about what cultures created relief sculptures ( bas relief, high relief and sunken) and for what purposes. This project doesn’t require much clay or paint. A kiln is needed to fire the low fire, earthenware clay in this lesson, but if working with very small groups, air dry clay could be used as well.
