This document includes definitions of related ceramics terms, a list of techniques for working with clay, and some suggestions for projects.

Ceramics: (1) Objects made of clay and fired in a kiln. The term refers to functional and decorative objects, as well as sculpture made from clay. (2) The art of making (or modelling) objects (hand building with clay, plasticine, or play dough, etc.)

Hand Building: (clay) The creation of ceramic pieces using only the hands and simple tools (as opposed to a potter’s wheel) by coiling, moulding, pinching, pulling up from the mound of clay, slabbing, or combinations of these techniques.
