This lit circle is conducted entirely in French. Students read a text, then using a jigsaw activity, in groups students are each given a task to do (to summarize, find and define unknown vocab, write discussion questions, to create a timeline of the story). Students then share their findings in different, smaller groups. Everyone will have something to share, everyone will have something to learn. Though the medium might be literature, the goal is that they are communicating in French, developing their speaking, written and listening skills. Students will then take one of the discussion questions and write a paragraph response to it.
Loads of opportunities for both formative and summative assessment here! Also, very much student-led, very little work for the teacher! It can take as long as you want it to, at the very minimum one, probably maximum three one-hour lessons.
This resource includes detailed instructions, and all the supplies (except the text itself) that you will need. Note that it is completely in French.
I use this in Grade 8 français approfondi, but it could be used in any year group where their French is a little stronger (perhaps 10-12) and they have a bit of a working knowledge of the language. It could be adapted for younger grades too. You can use any text you want!
Any questions, just ask! :)
