When you get to the unit where students talk about what they do for sports and hobbies, why not have them create brochures about themselves, showing and explaining what they do in different weather and seasons? Include a space on the back of the brochure for a brief bio. Have them put pictures of themselves on the front page. Voilà, a brochure that's all about them.
I have used these with penpals in France. Sometimes, I send the printed brochures. Other times, I have students use that information and record a video presentation that they do in French about themselves and then I send that to their penpals. I also keep a copy so that the following year, I can bring them out and students will see what they were able to accomplish by the end of the year before. It's always fun for everyone when I bring them back out!
