This is a fast-paced activity for your Algebra students to practice using order of operations and apply the properties to simplify expressions. The goal is to be the first group to arrive at the correct answer. All results are integral answers only.
BONUS: Order of Operations foldable included.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate expressions using order of operations and to apply the properties of the operations of addition and multiplication to simplify expressions.
Students are divided into groups of 5 and assigned a letter a through e. The teacher picks an integer to call out and the group begins with student "a" who evaluates their expression and passes the result on to student "b". The process is continued until a final result is found. The group who finishes first is rewarded with points, candy, or some other "monetary system" that is at the teacher's discretion. This is a lively, exciting activity that will keep those competitive students engaged and challenged.
