Graphic Organizer or Tech Connection
This is a great unit that I use in my own classroom. It is ready to go right out of the printer.
It is aligned with the Common Core and the Michigan Social Studies Standards for 5th Grade.
I found this to be a great book to bridge my Michigan Social Studies Standards of teaching slavery (in the context of the formation of the colonies and Revolutionary War) with the stories of Frederick Douglass and the legacy of Abraham Lincoln. I chose picture books as supplementals to this novel, to deepen my student's understanding of how slavery was viewed and experienced from different perspectives. At the end of the unit, the students will put together a timeline to see the big picture of how long it took to change slavery laws in America.
It also includes an answer key.
