This activity simulates the effects of rain water on rocks. It will show students that rocks do not always stay the same and can change over time because of chemical weathering. Students will also learn the difference between mass and weight. This lab gives students a visual representation that they can associate with chemical weathering. It takes about a hour to set up, but only ten minutes every day for the remaining week to record data.
