Anyone can teach this 45 - 60 minute lesson using our power point!
A preparation slide tells you the supplies you need and any helpful information before starting the lesson.
The teaching slides are a great visual guide for the students to follow along, as well as written instruction to keep everyone on track!
Pastels can be prepared into warm and cool groups, or have the students choose them.
Use the "4 Tips for Using Chalk Pastels" slide to educate students before drawing.
Then, students are visually guided on how to draw a large warm or cool heart that fills the page.
Now the shading and highlighting begin! Once the heart is properly filled, students use a little water to blend their pastels together, which helps to seal the pastels before the next step.
Using 3 colors, students fill the background with warm or cool pastels to complement their heart. Fingers are used to blend this together for a soft look, and water if they like.
When this project is mounted, it makes for a bright and cheerful display! Along the way your students have gained confidence with a simple introduction to using and blending chalk pastels.
See our more advanced lesson, The Auroras, for a more challenging use of pastels. Great for grades 3 and up!
