Chalk Talk/Gallery Walk – Introduction to Nutrition and Fitness
Do you want your students to brainstorm answers to questions BEFORE you teach the material? Do you want to determine their prior knowledge of a concept BEFORE they read the chapter? Do you want to make your classroom more exciting and engaging? Do you want them to be learning through cooperative learning instead of lecture? If so, this lesson plan may be just what you need.
This lesson plan is based off a Cultures of thinking routine. It requires students to respond in writing to 4 questions or prompts about nutrition and fitness on large pieces of paper. As each student moves from paper to paper, they each add their own thoughts and wonderings. They can also add to and respond to things other students have written.
This routine gives students the time to create an open ended discussion and learn from one another. It also gives each student a voice.
You will be amazed how many answers your students come up with.
