Designed to give your 3rd or 4th grade students some brain exercises through weekly challenge pages. Suggested use ideas are included. Challenge questions include mathematical, language, visual/spatial, and open-ended problems and puzzles. Language-based questions may include analogies, categorizing, or unraveling word puzzles. Mathematical problems may have multiple or open-ended answers, some focusing on computation skills, others on word problem solving. A visual/spatial problem could have students grabbing for the toothpicks at home. A joke, a riddle, or rebus style brain teaser puzzle might prompt new responses that are just as clever or funny as the originally intended one. Try out a few for yourself. The 24 challenges will stretch minds and show that divergent thinking and perseverance are rewarding.
