Pg. 3-8 High-Frequency Word practice – roll the dice to see how many times to write them, illustrate them and use them in a sentence – students can dictate if needed
Pg. 9-10 Roll and Write! – practice writing the capital and lowercase letter Kk and Hh – roll the dice to see how many times to write the letters on each line
Pg. 11-14 “k” is for Kangaroo! - Copy the patterns onto the appropriate colored construction paper – cut out the k, add the pocket, kangaroo heads, eyes, ears and nose – have the students draw the lines under the nose to form the mouth of each kangaroo – can use wiggle eyes instead – see picture
Pg. 15-17 “h” is for horse! - Copy the patterns onto appropriate colored construction paper – cut out the horse head, ear, and eye and add them to the letter h – cut black yarn and add it for the mane and tail – can use wiggle eyes – see picture
Pg. 18-20 We Love the “Hh” sound! – cut out the pictures that start with the /h/ sound and glue them onto the heart – hippo, helicopter, hand, hammer, horse, and hat
Pg. 21-23 K is for kangaroo! – cut out and glue the kangaroo together as seen in the picture – glue on the pocket gluing only the sides and the bottom to form a pocket – cut out the pictures – put only the pictures that start with the /k/ sound into the pocket –king, kite, kettle, koala, key, kittens, and kitchen
Pg. 24-29 If I Were a Chameleon – What would you do if you were a chameleon? – copy the patterns onto the appropriate colored construction paper – roll the tongue around a pencil before gluing it – cut the tail on the line to create a spiral tail – put together as seen in the picture
Pg. 30-33 Let’s Write Questions About Our Animal! Write three questions about your animal to help you write your report –copy pages A and B back to back – choose a question word to start your question with – cut it out and glue it into the first box – finish writing your question and glue the question mark at the end of the sentence
Pg. 34 My Animal Report! – choose an animal to write three amazing things about – illustrate your animal, draw its habitat and what it eats
Pg. 35-53 Zap! – a game to help you practice your High-Frequency Words – each player gets a game board and a chameleon – move your chameleon up and down the tree – read a word correctly and move your chameleon one space – choose an angry chameleon or scorpion card and move backwards – choose a frog or gecko card and move forward – the first person to zap the caterpillar wins – can be laminated
