To learn calligraphy students must remember many things at once and be sure that each 'a', 'd', 'g', etc. matches every other 'a', 'd', 'g', etc. To simplify and give the students a little more control and success I have created the 'break line'. It has been successfully used by teenagers and adults for over 20 years in my public school classes. (I am also a professional calligrapher)
