This activity has students sort cards into the changes in states of matter. (Freezing, melting, vaporization, condensation, and sublimation are included.) Kinesthetic learners, SPED students, and ELL students especially benefit from this sorting activity because they physically group the examples, which have both words and pictures. After students sort all of the cards, they record their answers on the worksheet and answer questions about changes in states of matter in sentences. Students can work individually or in small groups to complete this activity.
This resource includes the following materials:
-Teacher Information pages
-5 category cards (Freezing, Melting, Vaporization, Condensation, and Sublimation)
-5 definition cards
-5 cards showing the changes at the atomic level
-10 example cards with pictures
-4 blank cards for a possible extension activity
-Student Activity Sheet
