Product Description

Fourth graders need to be able to describe how a change in an ecosystem effects all of the species in the environment. They need to be able to graph (and read a graph) about how these changes. This activity integrates science and writing by having students imagine an ecosystem change, create a graph for the changes that would happen on at least two species, and write a paragraph about the modification and its effects on the ecosystem.

The power point includes helpful hints for the lesson as well as the writing prompts and differentiation to assist lower learners.

Science standards covered:

  • Communicate a scenario to demonstrate the effect of a change on an ecosystem.
  • Use printed and digital data to develop a model illustrating and describing changes to the flow of energy in an ecosystem when plants or animals become scarce, extinct, or over-abundant.
