This 4-page document will have your upper-level middle school students and lower-level high school students looking closer at 2 of Crooks' speeches in Chapter 4 of Of Mice and Men. After students have read the chapter, take time to go back and re-read speeches about loneliness and dreams. Use this opportunity to really dig into the words the author has chosen to describe the situation of the men on the ranch, and the time period. There are 2 speeches, complete with 3 of their own multiple choice questions, and a 4th question that asks students to write a controlling idea topic sentence for practice paragraph, outlining the theme and message of the passage. The last 2 pages of the document include answer keys for the worksheets. Thank you for your interest!
