This is a great product to have when you want to switch things up during your reading group time...and allow your students to have more independence in what they are reading. It can definitely be used outside of reading group as well. Maybe just utilized in your class as a whole, and a way to check behind your students to ensure they are reading and following through with their reading. I use this mostly at the end of the year...when as a reading group there isn't enough time to dive into another chapter book (because in my reading groups we dissect a chapter a week, so it can take months to get through a chapter book). My students love this end of the year option. I allow them to pick a book of their liking, then assign them chapters each day. They read the chapters, then reflect in their journal. They later share with the rest of their reading group. I have provided you with the "book" cover (just fold in half - and it has directions for the kids, as well as parents), along with the actual journal sheet (again, fold in half). You can print as many as you like to put into the journal. I usually print 4, and then make them front to back. That usually provides enough pages to get through a chapter book!
