Chapter Book Study

- PDF

Description
Engage students in chapter books by having them complete this fun project! Your students can read ANY chapter book and complete this fun summarizing project. Students will practice retelling book chapters using four different formats: story elements (character, setting, problem, solution), two different forms of summarizing (somebody, wanted, but, so, then) or talking about how a character has changed over the course of a story/cause effect.
This resource includes:
- 4 Anchor Charts (Retelling, Summarizing, Someone Wanted But So Then and First Then Next Last)
- 4 Pages for Publishing (up to 22 chapters)
- 4 Different Summary Slips
- Teaching Tips
- Photo Examples
Students can work alone, in groups, or as a whole class to complete this project. I always model it first with a read aloud, then allow students to color the pictures for our class projects. After we do this as a class, I do this with my small reading groups, then students are able to work on these independently. We usually work at the pace of one chapter a day until our books are done.
